"Women were turned away after traveling to see their incarcerated loved ones and barred from future visits for six months or even indefinitely - all because they were on their period," a post from the NYCLU's Instagram page reads. "This is a clear act of sex discrimination. The Department of Corrections and Community Supervision must restore these women's visitation rights and change screening procedures immediately to accommodate the basic fact that some visitors will be menstruating."

One prominent figure making and predicting these wagers, who goes by FadeMeBets online, has garnered thousands of likes and shares on Instagram for his menstrual cycle betting strategy. He claims he's been correct on 11 out of 16 of his period-related predictions, with about 68.75 percent accuracy. "What's kind of good, but also kind of bad, is it brings more people to watch the WNBA, but, on the downside of that, it's usually just all gamblers," says FadeMeBets, who declined to be named, citing privacy concerns.

When it gets close to my menstrual cycle, he gets into an angry panic for us to be intimate because he travels for work and is home only four nights a week. If we're not able to, he pouts, then becomes angry and distant, and peppers me for updates to determine how soon we can resume intimacy. Regardless of how I feel at my time of the month, my feelings are ignored.

Thankfully, my husband is the opposite of that, and so many millennial dads are following suit, like TikTok user @scuba.y.korea, who demonstrated a masterclass in being a girl dad after his daughter expressed fear she may be getting her period. "I don't feel so good," his daughter says. In true dad fashion, he first asks, "Got a poop?' She replies, "I don't know. All I know is that I haven't had my period yet."

Getting a period is a social and developmental milestone that many American girls are reaching earlier than their mothers and grandmothers, about six months earlier on average.
