At the risk of banging the Michael King drum too loudly after already featuring him in another post from earlier today, I wanted to look more at why he is a perfect fit for what the Cubs do. CI has been told that Jed Hoyer is infatuated with Japanese fireballer Tatsuya Imai, who will likely be a priority because his posting window closes on January 2, but King appears to be a very close second when it comes to their offseason wishlist. Though his fastball doesn't jump off the page, it's the way King manipulates it and the rest of his pitches that makes him so intriguing.
With the starting market providing some high potential but no true home runs, I'm personally of the belief that Boston should try to find a No. 3 in the free agent market and conduct a trade to bring in a true No. 2 behind Garrett Crochet (I will pray every night this offseason that Joe Ryan or Hunter Greene somehow make their way to Boston).
It's been widely reported that the Toronto Blue Jays are looking to add a starting pitcher via free agency this offseason - and Michael King should be the guy. The 30-year-old pitched to a 3.44 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 73 ⅓ innings in 2025. He landed on the injured list in May due to a shoulder injury, then returned in August but only threw two innings before being sidelined again with a knee issue.
