Daulton Varsho hit his fifth career grand slam, George Springer added a two-run homer and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 6-1 on Thursday night to maintain a tie for the AL East lead with the New York Yankees. Toronto (91-68), which had lost six of seven, closes with three games at home against Tampa Bay. Boston (87-72) was prevented from clinching a postseason berth.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Steven Kwan tied a season high with four RBIs and the Cleveland Guardians made it 10 straight wins by beating the Minnesota Twins 8-0 on Saturday to sweep a day-night doubleheader without giving up a run. Winners in 15 of their past 16 games, the Guardians are one game back of first-place Detroit in the AL Central after trailing by 11 on Sept. 4 and by 14 shortly before the All-Star break.

"This is my personal opinion. I feel like ever since we started playing poorly a couple months ago, the pressure and frustration has been building up on the team. And I don't see anybody smiling and having a good time. We all know, when you're losing baseball games it's not that fun. But I feel like we have to find a way to put everything in perspective."

Grisham's breakout season continued Friday when he homered for the third straight game, crushing a grand slam that created some early breathing room before the Yankees piled on late for their season-high sixth straight win, 10-2 over the White Sox. "It's what I've always dreamed about and thought I was capable of," Grisham said of his career-high 28 homers in his seventh season as a big leaguer. "To do it is a whole other thing. But no, it does not surprise me."

"No, no. I think that's hard to chase, as far as kind of the win-loss. I think for me, it's just look at each day separately and try to win as many games as possible. We've had some things to go through, but we've managed it, I think, really well."
