Mendoza, 45, has spent the past two seasons as the Mets' manager. Next season, his third year on the job, is the final guaranteed year of his contract. The Mets hold a club option on him for the 2027 season. Mendoza's Mets went 89-73 in 2024 and made it all the way to Game 6 of the NLCS before falling to the Dodgers. This year's club finished 83-79, missing the playoffs by the narrowest of margins.

Noah Schultz got the start and went three innings, giving up two earned but keeping a harness on his control. He walked just one and threw a solid 32 of 48 pitches for strikes. He struck out just one but his contact brought no great harm (three singles).

The ball just stayed fair for a solo home run, putting the Chicago White Sox ahead against the Kansas City Royals. It was a short-lived lead. The Sox surrendered eight runs in the fifth inning, the most they've allowed in an inning this season, on the way to a 12-1 loss to the Royals in front of 10,598 at Rate Field.
