OpenAI will award $40.5 million to more than 200 nonprofits before the end of the year, following an open call for applications in September. This is the first wave of donations since the maker of ChatGPT rebranded its nonprofit as the OpenAI Foundation in October. The company has committed $25 billion to helping fund health research and what it calls AI resilience or ways to minimize the risks of these technologies.

The OpenAI mission - ensuring that AGI benefits all of humanity - will be advanced through both the business and the Foundation,

" Microsoft and OpenAI have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding for the next phase of our partnership," the companies said in a document described as a joint statement, continuing, "Together, we remain focused on delivering the best AI tools for everyone, grounded in our shared commitment to safety."

Our mission is to support the development and deployment of AI in ways that are good for the world but might not be incentivized by the market.
