Florida's Senate Bill 168 expands public nuisance law to include illegal gambling properties and removes caps on fines for violations.
The penalty the bureau is proposing would either be three times the value of the benefit derived from Google's allegedly anticompetitive practices or, "if that amount cannot be reasonably determined," three per cent of Google's annual worldwide gross revenues. Google said that could leave it paying up to $91-billion - a sum it described as "shocking, gargantuan" and "unprecedented in Canadian history" because it is hundreds of times larger than the biggest criminal fines ever imposed.
The MGA would like to remind consumers not to utilise services provided by an entity unless they have ascertained that the entity in question is authorised to provide such services by the MGA. The gaming regulatory framework obliges authorised persons to comply with strict legal requirements in the interest of consumers. The activities of unlicensed entities are unregulated and do not provide the necessary safeguards delineated by virtue of the framework, making transactions with such entities risky for consumers.
