If you weren't able to shut down your Windows 11 device recently, Microsoft has rolled out an emergency fix addressing a couple of critical bugs that popped up with its latest January 2026 Windows security update. The latest "out-of-band" update repairs an issue for some Windows 11 devices that would only restart when users tried to shut down or hibernate. The same update restores the ability for Windows 10 and Windows 11 users to log into their devices via remote connection apps.

Perhaps the most striking revelation is that people working at Intellexa could allegedly remotely access the surveillance systems of at least some of its customers via TeamViewer, an off-the-shelf tool that allows users to connect to other computers over the internet. The remote access is shown in a leaked training video revealing privileged parts of the Predator spyware system, including its dashboard, as well as the "storage system containing photos, messages and all other surveillance data gathered from victims of the Predator spyware,"

After using Linux for over two decades, I'm totally comfortable with the command line and tend to default to it for certain things. I do this because I find the command line to be more efficient than using a GUI. I can leave a terminal window open at all times and perform tasks without needing to take my hands off the keyboard.
