First Bus has launched a UK trial using electric bus depots to support the National Grid balancing mechanism by adjusting when vehicles are charged. The project started at the operator's Glasgow depot (at the time of conversion, 2021, it was the largest EV bus depot in the country) and will extend later this spring to Great Yarmouth in Norfolk. According to First Bus, this is the first time a UK bus operator has enrolled electric depots into the balancing mechanism managing electricity supply and demand shortly before delivery.

The Natrium reactor, developed jointly by Bill Gates-backed TerraPower and GE Hitachi, is being built as part of the Department of Energy's Advanced Reactor Demonstration Program. It represents something genuinely new: a reactor designed from the ground up to complement renewable energy rather than compete with it.

Over five days in December 2025, more than 200 real-time simulated "grid events" were sent to the site to test the Emerald software's ability to dynamically adjust the datacentre's power consumption. Emerald AI's platform was able to adjust power use to the requested level and cut demand by up to 40% while critical workloads ran as normal.

Dr. Yang Zuoxing, Founder and CEO of MicroBT, opened the event with a keynote that highlighted the connection between technological leadership and long-term industry growth. He framed the conversation around energy innovation, presenting strategies that aim to integrate renewable sources into mining operations. Central to his remarks was an off-grid solar solution capable of 200kW output. This system, using an 800V DC supply and a "load-following-source" design, improves efficiency compared to traditional AC setups and enables uninterrupted operation.
