The National Safety Council recently estimated that U.S. traffic deaths plummeted by nearly 5,000 between 2024 and 2025 - a 12-percent drop, and the largest single-year decline since at least 1999. That estimate still means that 37,810 people lost their lives in car crashes last year - a horrifying number, but the lowest one published by NSC since 2019.
It was a two-vehicle convoy: a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV. Joshua was seated behind the driver, with another person beside him. There was also a passenger sitting beside the driver, making four occupants in the Lexus that crashed. His security detail was in the vehicle behind them before the crash. Other eyewitnesses and I began the rescue and flagged down oncoming vehicles to assist. A few minutes after the crash, officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived.
Two young men died in a fatal road collision involving four cars on a local road at Killeen, Ballinunty. Gardai said that shortly before 6pm, they and emergency services responded to a serious collision. Two young men, aged in their early 20s and late teens, who were occupants of one of the cars, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two women, both aged in their 20s and travelling in a second car, were taken by ambulance to Tipperary University Hospital, Clonmel.
Drivers from London are much more likely to crash on country roads than the rest of the population, despite feeling more confident driving on them. A survey of 2,000 motorists from insurer NFU Mutual found that 38 per cent of Londoners had been involved in a collision on rural roads, contrasted with 23 per cent of people from the rest of the UK.
