5 days agoReminder: The Green Line shutdown is here
Green Line trains are suspended through Dec. 22 between North Station, Kenmore, Babcock Street, and Heath Street; shuttle buses and alternate routes are in place.
The pause is no small hiccup-it's the first of six planned weekend outages this fall. The Port Authority says crews will be busy installing and testing four new switches designed to improve train speed and flexibility, while also demolishing and rebuilding a Conrail freight bridge that looms over the PATH tracks. It might be painful in the short term, but it means smoother rides (and fewer bottlenecks) in the long run.
From Sept. 3 to 11, service between Kenmore and Riverside will be suspended on the D branch. The shutdown will allow for track improvements and Green Line Train Protection System infrastructure installments to prevent train collisions and enforce speed limits. Shuttle buses will replace service with local buses stopping at all stops between Kenmore and Riverside, except at Beaconsfield. Express shuttle service will be offered between Copley and Riverside, Woodland, Waban, Eliot, and the Newton Highlands stops. Riders should allot for a longer commute time with a predicted additional 30 to 45 minutes for travelers going from Riverside to Government Center.
G train riders in Brooklyn and Queens will experience service disruptions starting Monday, with no service between Court Square and Bedford-Nostrand Avenues on select weeknights and weekends.
