We are deeply saddened to share that a participant experienced a serious medical emergency today during the event and has passed away. The runner's crew and family have been notified.

The race, in its 12th edition, is often considered a trial run of sorts for Western States, as a large chunk of the middle section traverses the iconic Western States Trail, including the notorious Devil's Thumb climb, Deadwood Cemetery, and Cal Street.

The Madeira Island Ultra-Trail Legend 110k course travels point-to-point across the island, from Porto Moniz in the northwest to the town of Machico in the east.

Lucien Epiney from Switzerland won the Ultra Trail Men's race in Spain with a time of 6:57, followed by Alexis Martín and Manuel Mesa from Spain finishing in 7:10 and 7:51 respectively.

The new rubber underfoot significantly improves traction on slippery surfaces, and the 4-millimeter lugs, although slightly shorter than those on the previous version, provide grip both while climbing and descending. From September 25 to 28, some of the world's top mountain running and trail running athletes gathered in Canfranc, Spain, for the 2025 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WMTRC) to represent their countries in four different events. Historically, many top runners have opted to skip the world championships for various reasons, including busy race schedules, sponsorship conflicts, and financial considerations.

While it's easy to see that trail running and ultrarunning struggle with a lack of diversity, understanding how to address the issue has proven difficult in many sectors of the running space. Recently, the Running Industry Diversity Coalition (RIDC) released a guide, " Opening the Path to Trail Running: A Toolkit for Runners, Retailers, and Communities," designed to provide discrete and actionable steps that the running community can take to improve diversity in the sport. The RIDC is a non-profit that has been working to improve racial diversity, equity, and inclusion in running since 2020.

This year, the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships (WMTRC) will be held in the Spanish Pyrenees mountains from Thursday, September 25, through Sunday, September 28. The small Spanish mountain town of Canfranc, nestled deep in a mountain valley, is home to the historic Canfranc International Railway Station, now converted to a hotel, and a strong mountain running tradition. The four days of racing include an Uphill and Up and Down race as part of the World Mountain Running Championships,

The 45-kilometer (28 miles) TWC Short Trail race starts on Friday, September 26, at 8 a.m. CEST. The route is along the longtime CanfrancCanfranc Marathon course and in a single loop with 3,657 meters (12,000 feet) of climbing. Along the way, runners will take in most of the prior day's Uphill course, cross the French border and back again, and endure a wild 122 downhill curves from the Collado de Estiviellas to the finish.
