Toronto Tempo won their first game by improving offensive execution through sharp ball movement and faster transition play.
All five starters finished in double figures, led by Julian Champagnie, who finished with 26 points and six 3-pointers, and San Antonio turned defensive stops into easy offense, outscoring Brooklyn 24-10 in transition.
Turnovers told the story before anything else had a chance to. The Nets handed the ball away 25 times Sunday night at Little Caesars Arena. The Detroit Pistons turned those mistakes into 39 points, shot 56.5% from the floor and committed just eight turnovers themselves. By the time it was over, Brooklyn walked off with a 130-77 loss, falling to 13-35 in a game that was over long before the final buzzer.
The Miami Heat broke their record for points in a single half on Friday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 86, four more than their previous total that has been set three times. Bam Adebayo led the charge with 20 points, scoring 18 first-quarter points with four 3-pointers; Simone Fontecchio had 14 points on four made threes of his own in his lone eight-minute stint;
The casual observer might have thought the Toronto Raptors' defensive pressure against the Atlanta Hawks wasn't working. The Raptors couldn't stop fouling and were in the bonus after six minutes of the first, with more than half of Atlanta's points coming at the free throw line. Jalen Johnson shed Toronto's full-court pressure with ease, driving around defenders, getting to the rim for layups, and drawing oodles of those aforementioned fouls.
