The iPhone Apple's always wanted to make might finally be possible
Briefly

For years, Apple fans have speculated about a portless iPhone, and recent EU regulations now allow this to be a possible reality. Reports indicate that a new model, the iPhone 17 Air, might be designed without a SIM card slot and possibly without a charging port, moving towards a thinner build. Although this concept has been previously explored, Apple hesitated on full implementation. However, it seems the company's long-desired vision of a fully wireless iPhone might soon be achievable.
According to 9to5Mac, a European Commission press officer has confirmed that while a charging port is present it must be USB-C, yet a device doesn’t need a port at all to comply.
This leaves Apple free to produce a portless iPhone - and the company has apparently been exploring the idea with the much-rumoured iPhone 17 Air, allegedly the thinnest iPhone ever without a SIM card slot.
The report does suggest the iPhone 17 Air will be the first step towards a 'slimmer, port-free era', making the ultimate vision for Apple's iPhone a distinct possibility.
