"Following the US and India, Google is bringing Preferred Sources to Search users around the globe. This elevates your chosen websites and publications in the Top Stories carousel that appears in Search results. There's also a "From your sources" carousel. Tap the star icon to the right of "Top stories" on the results page to set, while many sites today offer shortcuts. Google says users that pick a preferred source click that site "twice as much on average.""
Google announced five updates to boost links across AI Mode, the Gemini app, and the web. Preferred Sources will elevate user-selected websites in the Top Stories carousel and add a "From your sources" carousel, with preferences set via a star icon next to Top stories. Google reports users who pick a preferred source click that site twice as much on average, with nearly 90,000 unique sources so far. The feature will reach English-language users in coming days and all supported languages early next year. Web Guide Labs now organizes results into topic groups, runs twice as fast, and appears more often in the All tab for opted-in users. AI Mode will show more inline links and include contextual introductions that explain why links may be helpful, and Google is collaborating with websites and creators of all sizes.
