Walmart employs 2.1 million people globally, including about 1.6 million in the U.S. AI is changing warehouse roles and affecting entry-level job opportunities. The company plans to automate some tasks while keeping overall headcount near 2 million, with the mix of jobs expected to change. Job functions that decrease, increase, or remain steady will be tracked to identify where upskilling is needed. Some tasks will be eliminated while new roles will be added. Walmart created an "agent builder" position to build AI tools for merchants and anticipates continued use of human workers in customer-facing roles.
