Why Nvidia's $100 billion deal with OpenAI is a win-win for both companies
""Everything starts with compute," said Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI. "Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we're building with Nvidia to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale.""
""Nvidia invests $100 billion in OpenAI, which then OpenAI turns back and gives it back to Nvidia," Bryn Talkington, managing partner at Requisite Capital Management, told . "I feel like this is going to be very virtuous for Jensen.""
""This is a giant project," Huang said."
Nvidia will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI tied to deployment of at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems for training and running next-generation models. Investment will come in $10 billion tranches as each gigawatt is deployed. The first phase will use Nvidia's Vera Rubin platform and is scheduled for the second half of next year. The 10-gigawatt capacity equates to approximately five million GPUs. The arrangement increases Nvidia's financial stake in OpenAI while ensuring large-scale deployment of Nvidia hardware and supports massive compute infrastructure for future AI breakthroughs.
