The Naoshima New Museum of Art, designed by Tadao Ando and directed by Miki Akiko, opens as a significant cultural landmark on Naoshima Island. This is Ando's tenth architectural contribution to the Benesse Art Site and its first to bear the island's name. The inaugural exhibition, titled 'From the Origin to the Future', features major works by prominent Asian artists. The museum's design integrates nature and architecture, embodying Ando's philosophy focused on concrete, light, and silence, providing visitors a deep connection to the surrounding environment.
"It is my belief that the experiences in Naoshima will forever linger in the memories of those who visit the island. The songs we listened to and the works of art we saw in our childhood are never forgotten."
"Through immersive installations and deeply site-responsive pieces, the show explores themes of identity, memory, and the relationship between people and place."
