Walnut Creek seniors' art among works to be exhibited in San Francisco
Briefly

Art With Elders has been serving seniors across five Bay Area counties for 32 years, utilizing art to combat isolation and foster community. Participants like Sharon Shutes, Bruce Mowat, and Sandra Hartz from the Sequoia Living Viamonte community are featured in a San Francisco exhibit, reflecting on the transformative power of art. Shutes emphasizes how creative expression connects her to the beauty of everyday life, allowing her to cope with aging and find joy in her surroundings. The program fortifies social bonds while encouraging personal growth through artistic endeavors.
I am honored to have a piece chosen for the AWE (Art With Elders) show this year from among so many arresting entries. That someone thought it deserved attention is a great compliment because it is perhaps hard to categorize.
As I've aged and my physical abilities have diminished, new activities had to be found to replace things I used to do. AWE has increased my awareness that art is everywhere around me if I just look with a new sense of understanding.
