In today's game, the Braves succeeded even without many of their top starters, highlighted by pitcher Jose Berrios's outstanding performance. Early in the game, he faced bases loaded but escaped the jam unscathed. Berrios then dominated, allowing just four hits over six innings and registering seven strikeouts. Meanwhile, the offense struggled against Grant Holmes but managed to score a run without significant hits. Notably, Alejandro Kirk's improved defensive skills behind the plate were reflected in his caught stealing record. Berrios's dominance was pivotal in achieving the win against a weaker Braves lineup.
Back to the win column today. The Braves didn't send most of their starters, but it was still a solid effort all around, with the offence not blowing it out but getting on base against a quality pitcher and Jose Berrios having a terrific day.
He escaped, though, on a pop out and a double play. He locked in from there, retiring all six Braves hitters in the second and third.
Kirk gunned down another runner in the sixth. He really upped this control of the run game last year, catching 27 of 87 steal attempts.
Berrios took care of the rest, striking out the other two Braves who stepped to the plate. It was a dominant outing, with only four hits allowed, none for extra bases, over six shutout innings and with seven strikeouts.
