The Braves returned home after a successful road trip but carried a somber feeling into their series opener against the Chicago Cubs. The organization planned to honor the memories of former owner Ted Turner and former manager Bobby Cox, both of whom passed away while the Braves were on the road. Walt Weiss spoke with the media about Bobby Cox’s impact on his baseball career. Weiss played for Cox from 1998 through 2000 and described the honor of playing under him for three years. He said Cox’s leadership style created loyalty through how he treated people and that respect returned to him. Weiss also emphasized Cox’s strong culture and the pressure to not disrupt it when joining the team.
