A woman was seriously injured when she was struck by a car in East Boston on Thursday afternoon, according to the Boston Police Department. At around 2 p.m., officers responded to a call about a pedestrian struck by a car in the area around Meridian Street and Saratoga Street. On arrival, officers found a woman suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries. Police say Boston EMS transported the woman to a local hospital for treatment.
Boston Police Supt. Paul McLaughlin said the incident happened shortly before 6 a.m., when officers were dispatched to 97 Mount Vernon St. after a 911 caller reported a breaking and entering in progress. The address is home to the upscale restaurant 1928 Beacon Hill. "On arrival, officers encountered a male suspect in a rear alley, armed with a large knife," McLaughlin told reporters, per video from WCVB. He said an officer discharged his taser and struck the man in an attempt to subdue him, but "to no avail."

But they are planning for October nonetheless. Alex Cora is reshuffling the rotation for this week's series against the Blue Jays, swapping Brayan Bello's upcoming turn on Wednesday for Garrett Crochet. This move not only gives Bello an extra day of rest down the stretch, but lines up Crochet to start Game One of the Wild Card Series. (Alex Speier, Boston Globe)
The Red Sox entered the night 1.5 games up in the Wild Card standings and found themselves down 1.0 runs in the middle innings... and they recovered, thanks to a Jarren Duran homer that put them up 4-3 and set them on the path to victory. Once they hit the eighth inning, the dam broke - seven runs! - and shit was no longer close, but then it was, but then it was over, and the Sox won. And there was much rejoicing.
The Guardians have transformed into some kind of unkillable movie monster. They just cannot be stopped. The good thing for the Red Sox, though, is that they don't need to worry about the Guards if they keep winning. With the non-Crochet portion of the rotation looking shaky, last night felt like a must-win and the Sox got it done, even if Crochet didn't quite look like his best and the bullpen made it hairy at the end.
Elisa and Vivian Girard are in the final stages of completion on a four-story building located at 141 Westville Street in the Field's Corner neighborhood. Out of the 14 studio apartments they've built, 12 will rent at $750. Two additional units, designated as 'affordable' under Boston's Inclusionary Development Policy, are priced for individuals earning half the area median income.
BOSTON (AP) - Pinch-hitter Nick Sogard's 10th-inning infield grounder off Michael Kelly drove home Nate Eaton with the winning run, and the Boston Red Sox beat the Athletics 5-4 on Wednesday night for their American League-leading 11th walk-off win of the season. Eaton started the inning as the designated runner at second base, took third on Carlos Narvaez's sacrifice bunt, and scored with a head-first slide to avoid the tag by catcher Shea Langeliers.
The Red Sox aren't trying to do this but they have become a Baseball Team of Theseus. Like the mythical ship, the Red Sox have replaced part after part, player after player, in the lineup as the season has gone on. Consider the Opening Day roster: Jarren Duran, Rafael Devers, Alex Bregman, Triston Casas, Trevor Story, Kristian Campbell, Wilyer Abreu, Connor Wong, Ceddanne Rafaela. Of the opening day position players, as starters, only Duran, Story, and Rafaela have been in the lineup all year.
Flynn's idea, which was supported only by Councilor Erin Murphy, proposes an amendment to an ordinance passed by City Council in April. Under that earlier ordinance, the city will soon begin requiring third-party restaurant delivery companies like Uber Eats, Grubhub, and DoorDash to obtain new permits in order to continue operating in Boston. It also requires the companies to share new safety data with the city and to provide liability insurance coverage for their drivers.
BOSTON (AP) - Brett Harris had a go-ahead single in a two-run sixth inning and the Athletics rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 2-1 on Tuesday night for their first five-game winning streak in over a year. Tyler Soderstrom had two hits and an RBI double for the Athletics, on their longest winning streak since six in a row from April 28 to May 4 last season.
Connelly Early did it again! He took the ball in a big September game against a surprisingly solid A's lineup and completely shut them down. When he he walked off the mound during the top of the sixth inning, he had a combined line over his first two MLB starts of 10.1 innings pitched, ZERO earned runs (at least for a moment), and 18 strike outs against just one walk. He was nothing short of brilliant, again!
The proposed development is for more than just a music venue. It's for a nine-story, mixed-use building with 139 residential units, 20% of which will be affordable, and 7,100 square feet of ground floor retail space. In the same intersection, the other three corners are set to be redeveloped as well, with a 96-room hotel (without dedicated parking) also in the works.
No one has been steadier for the 2025 Red Sox than closer Aroldis Chapman. Actually, no one has been steadier for the 2025 Red Sox than closer Aroldis Chapman and setup man Garrett Whitlock. Check this out: But Chapman has now allowed two earned runs in last 2.1 innings pitched, and this has come amidst a slight but real drop in velocity. Nevertheless, the Sox aren't worried. (Tim Healey, Boston Globe)
"It's like I've been a kid away at college and I'm coming home. I could not love this city more. I come back all the time to visit friends. I plead for Red Sox games every time we have them. It just makes me so happy to walk into Fenway and see familiar faces - the security guys, the clubbies are for the most part still there from my time - and hear 'Sweet Caroline' in the eighth inning. It brings back a flood of memories."
By most standards, Bruins' prospect Loke Johansson enjoyed a very good first season in North American hockey. Playing for Moncton in the QMJHL, the 6-foot-3, 214-pound Swedish-born defenseman had 4-18-22 totals and was a plus-46 while playing with the Wildcats, who won the Q championship while being led by last June's fourth overall pick Caleb Desnoyers. But, to be sure, it took a period of adjustment when he first arrived on the continent.
On Aug. 18, the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) notified Winthrop that it would not receive the $819,829 grant for Morton Street, nor a $405,020 grant for Fishermen's Bend, due to noncompliance with the MBTA Communities Act. The state law mandates that municipalities with MBTA transit access establish zoning that allows multi-family housing as-of-right, but Winthrop has long-resisted compliance.
All eyes were on Garrett Crochet in this outing after a lot of talk of fatigue in recent days for the pitcher who now leads all of baseball in innings pitched with 185 1/3. Crochet responded by dominating with all four of his pitches (Four Seam, Cutter, Sinker, Sweeper) and even a few changeups, allowing three hits, walking none, and striking out ten batters over seven innings, for his 15th victory of the season.
