Annabel Silbersher celebrated her 18th birthday by running her first Boston Marathon and has already raised over $20,000 for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Inspired by hearing about Christopher Reeve's journey, she committed to supporting disability rights and paralysis research. Balancing school and training has been challenging but rewarding. Silbersher's dedication and community support highlight the intersection of personal achievement and advocacy, as she ran during a time when federal funding for such causes may be waning, emphasizing her passion for giving back.
"It was truly one of the most incredible days ever," Silbersher said Tuesday in a phone call to Boston.com. "The Boston energy was amazing."
"I was immediately so inspired by the work that Christopher and Dana Reeve did to not only support care for paralysis, but also to try to invest in research to find a cure," Silbersher said.
"It feels so great to be able to give back in that way," she said.
Crossing the finish line was "pure joy," said Silbersher, who was still running high on the runner's energy a day after.
