A 17-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder related to the tragic shooting of 18-year-old Zanir Childs in Brooklyn on May 17. The incident occurred at 9:55 p.m. near Public School 36 in East New York. Tragically, Childs succumbed to injuries from a gunshot wound to the torso shortly after being taken to the hospital. Additionally, an 18-year-old woman was injured in the shooting and required medical attention. The arrest was made the following month, with specific charges including murder and criminal possession of a firearm.
An unidentified 17-year-old was arrested Monday and charged with murder, assault and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the May 17 slaying.
The shooting took place around 9:55 p.m. across the street from Public School 36 in East New York.
Childs was shot in the torso during the gunfire and rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.
An 18-year-old woman was also struck in the crossfire and taken to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center with a gunshot wound to her right arm.
