Mark's Hot Dogs in San Jose struggling after multiple break-ins this year
""It's just really putting a strain on the business," McClain said. "We did modify hours to keep the employees and everybody safe, but it's the only thing we could come up with at this time to help everything and keep Mark's Hot Dogs open.""
""Right down the street, we've been having a lot of car break-ins where we live at," Dean Williams said."
""The fact that these criminal rings are targeting small business owners, local entrepreneurs and some of our most beloved local businesses and families that we support and care about is just infuriating," Mahan said."
Mark's Hot Dogs, a San Jose establishment open since 1936, has been broken into or vandalized multiple times this year, including five incidents captured on video. Owner Mark McClain reports the crimes are placing significant financial and operational strain on the business and prompting reduced hours to protect staff. Customers and residents report nearby car break-ins and call for increased police presence. Other local restaurants, such as Antipastos, have faced similar thefts. Mayor Matt Mahan characterized the incidents as criminal rings targeting small businesses and urged holding repeat offenders accountable to prevent closures.
