The City Council has approved the $13.5 million acquisition of 447 S. Almaden Blvd a 3.56-acre parcel located between the convention center to the east and Discovery Meadow and the Children's Discovery Museum property to the west after BXP, formerly known as Boston Properties, put the site up for sale in the spring after abandoning its development plans.

With one of the city's most dangerous streets in the backdrop, Mayor Matt Mahan recalled visiting with the family and attending the funeral of Esias Amaru Ramos-Berhane, an 11-year-old boy killed on his scooter last year in South San Jose. I promised them that it was with his memory that I would fight for safer streets for our city, Mahan said. An ICE detainment was caught on camera at a San Jose nonprofit which has supported the immigrant community in the South Bay for nearly 50 years. The San Jose Rapid Response Network says Tuesday morning, targeted immigration activity led to the arrest of a man inside of the day laborer center at ConXión to Community. The day prior, the network says the man fled an ICE check-in office after his wife was detained - leading to a warrant to be served for his arrest.

The crash was reported at 12:19 a.m. Saturday near Ocala Avenue and Ridgemont Drive, between East Capitol Expressway and South White Road, according to the San Jose Police Department. An initial investigation determined that a woman driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica was turning left from Ridgemont onto westbound Ocala, putting her in the path of a man headed east on a 2024 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle. The rider crashed into the minivan; he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Demont Taylor, 43, after he was identified in a video as the man carrying a handgun who on Sept. 2 at approximately 5:30pm reportedly chased an unhoused victim, pushed him to the ground and brandished a firearm in the area of West San Carlos Street and Leland Avenue in San José. Witnesses reported that the suspect was wearing a silver badge on his belt and appeared to be a law enforcement or security officer,

Without naming the person, Mahan said Wednesday that one of the victims worked for the city in its housing division. He added that the city has made counselors available for grieving colleagues. "It's heartbreaking," Mahan said. "I've been thinking a lot about the victims and their loved ones." The police department has not announced any new information on a shooting suspect, though Mahan said detectives are "pursuing all leads and conducting a thorough investigation," but declined to say more "to let the investigation play out."

Mark McNamara will continue having to defend himself against the wrongful-shooting claims of K'aun Green, who McNamara shot four times as Green was exiting a downtown taqueria on March 27, 2022 after a brawl inside the eatery. Green had his hands up while holding a gun above his head pointed up toward the air - a weapon he had disarmed from an assailant inside - when he was shot.

First responders on are the scene Friday, investigating a possible small plane crash in the mountains east of San Jose near Mount Hamilton. Crews arrived on the scene around 3:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a fire associated with a small plane crash. Multiple helicopters combed the area looking for the scene. One chopper landed and several firefighters hiked to an area that appeared to contain debris, but there was no obvious signs of fire.

On Saturday, a search warrant was executed on the 3000 block of Seven Trees Boulevard by the Narcotics Unit of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office, authorities said. The search warrant followed an investigation into a drug trafficking organization that was operating in Sonoma County. While serving the search warrant, authorities conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was connected to the investigation, which first complied then fled the scene, authorities said.

SAN JOSE Bernal Plaza, a San Jose shopping center featuring stores such as Staples and Ross, has been bought by a Southern California investor in what experts say signals robust interest in South Bay retail sites. Bison Partners paid $38.3 million for the retail hub, according to documents filed on Sept. 5 with the Santa Clara County Recorder's Office. After tense negotiations marked by charges of sabotage and retaliation, San Jose police have reached a tentative agreement with the city for a significant pay raise over the next three years. The deal still needs to be approved by the union and City Council, which could happen later this month.
