He is survived by his parents, Joe and Carla Ryan, and two younger brothers. Lurie had begun work as a security dog trainer for Bite Club K9 in Monterey. Ryan graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2022 and in addition to his work helping the homeless, was a writer, musician and painter."
Three people in their 20s were killed in a shooting in South San Jose after midnight on Sept. 16; the suspect was arrested the next day. Court documents identified the victims as Tarrah Lynn Taylor, Jeannessa Lurie and Max Chavez Ryan. Police say Taylor was the primary target. Jeannessa Lurie, 24, had begun work as a security dog trainer for Bite Club K9 and attended CSU Monterey Bay. Max Chavez Ryan, 26, worked as an outreach worker with the San Jose Housing Department assisting homeless residents move from Columbus Park to temporary housing, graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2022, and was a writer, musician and painter. Ryan is survived by his parents and two younger brothers.
