
"Sunnyvale's Department of Public Safety is celebrating its 75th anniversary on Sat., Oct. 4, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at DPS HQ, 700 All America Way. Attendees will be able to meet K9 officers, SWAT personnel and public safety officers; view vehicles, drones and equipment; and take guided tours of the newly renovated Public Safety building at 11 a.m. and noon. Families can learn about disaster prep, and teens can find out how to get hands-on public safety training and help officers."
"District board president Bridget Watson was selected for the Mayor's Award of Excellence. Columbia Middle School parent Elsa Nunez won an award for Contribution to the Arts for her work with Folklorica dance at Columbia Middle School. Christine Penland, an art teacher at Columbia Middle School, named Educator of the Year. Cherry Chase Elementary parent Eric Krock was recognized for Environmental Achievement for his work as an advocate for Greenspace."

Sunnyvale School District faculty, parents and elected officials attended the Sept. 20 Community Awards during the State of the City. Winners include Bridget Watson (Mayor's Award of Excellence), Elsa Nunez (Contribution to the Arts), Christine Penland (Educator of the Year) and Eric Krock (Environmental Achievement). The city accepts award nominations year-round and a panel of former recipients and current board and commission members selects the winners.
