The CPSC has recalled the Anker PowerCore 10000 due to overheating lithium-ion batteries, leading to fires and incurring property damage exceeding $60,700. Consumers are advised not to dispose of the power bank in regular trash and should instead take it to a hazardous waste collection center or contact Anker for a replacement or gift card. The recall affects devices sold from June 2016 to December 2022 across various major platforms in the U.S.
Anker has received 19 reports of fires and explosions caused by its faulty power bank. Among those incidents, there have been two reports of minor burn injuries.
To safely dispose of the PowerCore 10000, consumers should not throw it in the trash, but take it to a hazardous waste collection center.
