The Lego Game Boy Is A Masterpiece
"Lego's recently launched Game Boy is the most extraordinarily satisfying build, with results that feel uncannily realistic. It looks and feels perfect, complete with a just-too-murky screen to thoroughly emulate the real thing. Announced back in July and immediately up for pre-order (which I did as soon as I'd written the article), the Lego Game Boy was clearly a labor of love,"
"By my count, there are at least 12 pieces unique to this set, and wonderfully this includes a large number of pre-printed pieces with distinctive Game Boy designs and fonts. Where these would usually be stickers, Lego has saved people like me who live in fear of such operations, and I'm so very grateful. Placing stickers, especially long, thin ones, requires the steady hands of a surgeon,"
The Lego Game Boy faithfully reproduces the 1989 handheld with tactile controls, a deliberately murky screen, and satisfying mechanical feedback. Several bespoke pieces, including a curved grilled panel and fuchsia A and B caps, enhance authenticity and visual accuracy. The set includes at least twelve unique elements and many pre-printed parts that replace fragile stickers for detailed Game Boy fonts and graphics. Two buildable cartridges still require large stickers, adding a delicate step. The instruction sequence is deliberately paced and playful, starting with a cartridge and a display stand that stores spare lenticular cards.
