Germany pledges 35 billion for space defence
""Russia and China have in recent years rapidly expanded their capabilities for conducting warfare in space," said Pistorius."
""They can disrupt, jam, manipulate or even physically destroy satellites. In space, there are no borders or continents. Russia and China are our immediate neighbours there.""
""a resilient system of satellite constellations, ground stations, secure launch capabilities and related services""
""by 2030 alone, we plan to allocate 35 billion euros in budget funds to relevant projects""
Germany will allocate €35 billion by 2030 to strengthen outer space defence against expanding Russian and Chinese counter-space capabilities. The plan builds military structures to defend and deter adversaries in orbit and to create a resilient architecture of satellite constellations, ground stations, secure launch capabilities, related services and comprehensive cybersecurity for all space systems. The programme includes improved situational awareness through radar, telescopes and space surveillance satellites. The government warns that rivals can disrupt, jam, manipulate or physically destroy satellites and use space to project geopolitical influence, posing risks that could cripple nations.
