Improv Central in Alameda provides improv skills training for everyday people to apply theatrical improvisation techniques to business and personal situations. The facility aims to activate the inner improviser and help participants joyfully navigate unscripted life. Founder Claire Slattery studied drama and communication at Stanford and performed with California Shakespeare and American Conservatory Theater companies before moving into coaching and leadership roles with comedy and training organizations. Slattery contracted with Google and the Nature Conservancy to teach employees how to give more effective and entertaining presentations using improvisational tools. The training emphasizes letting go of perfectionism, trusting oneself, cultivating curiosity, and resisting over-preparation.
