Yoshinobu Yamamoto, recently named National League Pitcher of the Month, has maintained an outstanding performance for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In his latest match against the Atlanta Braves, he pitched six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and achieving six strikeouts. With a current record of 4-2 and an extraordinary 0.90 ERA, Yamamoto's strong showing reflects his peak career performance in Japan. If he sustains this level, he could become the first Japanese-born pitcher to win the prestigious Cy Young Award.
Yamamoto has been happy with his performance thus far and compared it to the peak of his career pitching in Japan, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic: "I've been able to perform at a very high level... I usually attack the strike zone all the time with all my pitches."
Yamamoto improved to 4-2 with an MLB-best 0.90 ERA, 2.23 FIP, and 0.93 WHIP and 11 strikeouts per nine in 40 innings pitched across seven starts this season.
