With Blake, one thing that's really exciting for us is, as much success as he's had, we feel like there's more in there and a lot of upside beyond what he's done to this point and the impact that can have on us in our quest to win a World Series this year and as many years as we can see out.
With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, the Padres mourn the passing of our beloved left-hander, Randy Jones. Randy was a cornerstone of our franchise for over five decades, highlighted by becoming the first Padres pitcher to win the Cy Young Award. Inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame in 1999, his impact and popularity only grew in his post-playing career, becoming a tremendous ambassador for the team and a true fan favorite.
All BBWAA Award winners will be announced live on MLB Network with special shows starting at 4 p.m. PT for each designated day. The voting process to determine the winners and finalists for each category is run by the BBWAA. Two writers from each MLB city are recommended by the local chapter chairman and approved by the national secretary-treasurer to vote for each award.
Randy Jones is a fun baseball story lost in time. He lost 22 games in his sophomore season in 1974 as a member of the San Diego Padres. A year later, he won 20 games with a league-best 2.24 ERA. That year's National League Cy Young runner-up, the next season included a league-high 22 victories along with 25 complete games, 315.1 innings, and maybe the most insane strikeout total you could imagine: only 93.
