It is the most unique contract in MLB history as all but $20 million of the total value will be paid out from 2034-2043, giving the Dodgers massive payroll flexibility. The deal also benefits Ohtani as he gets long-term security and tax savings. As a result, the two-way star only earns a $2 million salary each season. However, his total earnings was around $102 million in 2025 because of an array of endorsements with global companies.
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani outdid himself in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers, producing one of the most impressive single-game performances of all time. Ohtani made his second start of the postseason in Game 4, throwing six shutout innings against Milwaukee while notching 10 strikeouts. He threw 100 pitches in the outing, his highest total since returning from Tommy John surgery in June.
Varland and Ohtani crossed paths in 2024, when the Japanese star joined the Dodgers via free agency, signing a 10-year, $700 million deal. Ohtani is one of the most valuable athletes in the world, a true superstar across Asia. MLB legends and past recipients of the award comprised a renowned panel that cast votes for their choices for the honor. Fans also were part of determining the winners by casting votes.
Another Friday, another quick one. Shohei Ohtani has won three MVP awards. I think they've all been unanimous. Barry Bonds ended up with seven MVP awards. Ohtani has three but has already crossed the threshold of 30. Then again, the stuff he does doesn't quite rely on age as much as another position. Still, do you think he'll beat Bonds' tally?
