Swastika and MAGA hashtag scrawled near Long Beach Pride headquarters. Police investigation underway
"We must remember: Pride began as a protest. It has never only been about parades and celebrations - it is about standing up for our right to live openly and fully, to share in all the privileges and freedoms that every American deserves. And we will continue to prevail,"
"We simply ask that you remain vigilant, look out for one another, and continue to show the love and resilience that define us."
"plain and simple, old-fashioned hate and intimidation."
"Our city does not tolerate threats or attacks against our LGBTQ+ community. Period,"
Long Beach police responded to vandalism reported just before 6 p.m. on Obispo Avenue and found anti-LGBTQ+ graffiti on a utility box outside the Long Beach Pride headquarters. The graffiti included expletive-filled slurs, a Nazi swastika and a hashtag referencing MAGA. The incident is being investigated as a hate crime. Long Beach Pride posted photos and urged vigilance and mutual care, stressing Pride’s roots in protest and resilience. City leaders condemned the act, with a councilwoman calling it old-fashioned hate and the mayor saying the city does not tolerate threats or attacks against the LGBTQ+ community.
