One of the two grenades connected to a deadly explosion in Santa Monica is currently missing, according to authorities. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives confirmed that one grenade detonated on July 18, resulting in the deaths of three Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives. A thorough search for the second grenade has yet to yield results. Investigators noted that only one grenade's 'spoon' was located at the scene, indicating the other grenade's absence. The incident marks the deadliest in the department's history in over 150 years.
"We conducted a thorough search to locate the second device, but we haven't found it yet," he said during a briefing.
The ATF, which is investigating the blast, will also assume "full control into investigating the whereabouts of this other device that is missing," he added.
