Running Through the Land of Happiness
Briefly

The article recounts a traveler’s experience in Bhutan, participating in a 10-day mindful running retreat. The journey begins dramatically with a challenging landing at Paro International Airport, surrounded by the stunning Eastern Himalayas. The trip involves scenic runs through lush valleys and cultural exploration of Bhutan's sacred sites, all framed within the country’s philosophy of Gross National Happiness (GNH). Developed in the 1970s, GNH prioritizes societal health and environmental conservation, making this travel experience not just about running, but also about cultivating mindfulness in a unique, spiritually rich environment.
I came with a group of six women in their late 40s and early 50s for a 10-day mindful running trip organized by Run Wild Retreats.
Perhaps the notoriously dangerous landing into Paro International Airport is by divine design-a cleansing ritual of sorts before entering Bhutan.
