Drone incursions in Denmark were 'hybrid attack' DW 09/25/2025
""There can be no doubt that everything points to this being the work of a professional actor when we are talking about such a systematic operation in so many locations at virtually the same time," Lund Poulsen told a press conference on Thursday. "This is what I would define as a hybrid attack using different types of drones." He added that there was no direct military threat against Denmark and that no decision had been reached on invoking NATO Article 4, which would call for consultations among alliance members."
"Overnight from Wednesday into Thursday, more drones were seen near Aalborg Airport in northern Denmark, as well as three smaller airports in the country, police said. It led to flights being suspended for several hours at Aalborg Airport, which also serves as a military base. The new drone activity comes just two days after a similar incident near Copenhagen Airport, which police say was conducted by a "capable actor." Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described the Copenhagen incident as "the most serious attack on Danish critical infrastructure to date.""
Multiple drone incursions were observed over several Danish airports, including Aalborg and three smaller regional airports, causing flight suspensions and operational disruption. Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen characterized the incidents as a systematic, professional hybrid attack using different types of drones and said there was no direct military threat. No decision has been made to invoke NATO Article 4 for consultations. Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said Denmark will strengthen drone detection and countermeasures. The incidents follow similar events in Poland and Romania and a violation of Estonian airspace, while Russia denies involvement and NATO leaders are coordinating with Denmark.
