JUST IN: Three Russian Fighter Jets Violate NATO Member's Airspace
"Russia has already violated Estonia's airspace four times this year, which in itself is unacceptable. But today's incursion, involving three fighter aircraft entering our airspace, is unprecedentedly brazen,"
"Russia's increasingly extensive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a swift increase in political and economic pressure."
"The latest incursion follows a series of incidents in which Russian drones crossed into Polish and Romanian airspace earlier this month. Those violations triggered alarm among NATO allies and renewed pledges to strengthen defenses along the alliance's eastern flank."
Three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets crossed into Estonian airspace over the Gulf of Finland without permission and remained there for 12 minutes. Estonia summoned Russia's charge d'affaires in Tallinn to protest the incursion. Russia has violated Estonia's airspace four times this year. Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna described the three-aircraft entry as unprecedentedly brazen and said Russia's increasingly extensive testing of boundaries and growing aggressiveness must be met with a swift increase in political and economic pressure. The incursion follows Russian drone crossings into Polish and Romanian airspace, prompting NATO alarm and pledges to bolster eastern defenses. The Kremlin has not publicly commented.
