Local developers, The Core Cos. and Republic Urban Properties, have revised their proposal at 1197 Lick Avenue to prioritize affordable housing, increasing units to 135. Situated next to Tamien Station, the project benefits from excellent transit access, enhancing its appeal. Designed by Studio T-Square, it will feature mixed-unit buildings with affordable options for families earning 30%-60% of the median income. A ground-floor child-care center will serve 60 students. This initiative addresses San Jose's pressing housing affordability challenge amidst soaring rents and a low homeownership rate, fostering community and transit-oriented growth.
The revised proposal now includes 135 units of affordable housing, a significant increase from the original plan, addressing a critical gap in San Jose's housing market.
The project's focus on affordability, paired with its transit-oriented design, makes it a standout in the city's efforts to create housing that works for all.
