The verbal dispute escalated into violence when Samuel started punching the suspect, who allegedly pulled out a handgun and fired a shot that struck Samuel in the side of his head. Sanjay Samuel, 13, was shot in the side of his head in the parking lot of a Dunkin' Donuts in Cambria Heights on Sept. 22 and died from his injuries. EMS took him to Cohen Children's Medical Center, where he remained in a coma on life support with no sign of brain activity before being pronounced dead on Sept. 24. A 16-year-old person of interest was identified in surveillance images showing him holding a handgun and fleeing. The teen surrendered to the 105th Precinct on Sept. 26 with an attorney and is being questioned by homicide detectives. No charges had been filed and the investigation is ongoing.
