Justin Herbert has faced heavy pressure over recent weeks, taking 26 hits, suffering seven sacks and seeing pressure on more than half of his drop-backs. He rallied the Chargers to a win over the Broncos with highlight plays, but struggled in a 21-18 loss to the Giants, where he was sacked twice, pressured 21 times and threw two interceptions, matching last season's total through four games. Coach Jim Harbaugh said the team must improve protection and put Herbert in a better position. Herbert said taking hits is part of the job and that quarterbacks must be ready to absorb contact. The offensive-line issues worsened when tackle Joe Alt left the game.
