"Please notice the subtle word use in this heading that, I think, makes all the difference: "reinforcement." If you are not trying to teach someone an entirely new concept or framework, then very often microlearning is a great tool you should reach for."
Microlearning is often promoted as a solution for busy learners, especially when organizations lack time and budget for long-form training that addresses many learning gaps. Executive direction for noncritical training can be limited, creating a broader corporate environment that undermines learning investment. Social media platforms such as YouTube Shorts and TikTok are also cited as contributing to shorter attention spans, alongside claims of rapid forgetting after training. Launching many microlearning elements may seem like the best response, but microlearning should be used selectively. It works best when the goal is reinforcement rather than teaching entirely new concepts or frameworks, making it a useful tool for specific learning needs.
