Very mean squirrel' in Marin County sends at least 2 to ER
"Lucas Valley residents are on the lookout for an aggressive squirrel that has sent at least two people to the emergency room for medical treatment. Joan Heblack told ABC affiliate KGO-TV that she was walking in the San Rafael neighborhood when a squirrel seemingly came out of nowhere and attacked her leg, clawing and biting. It clamped onto my leg. The tail was flying up here."
"Lisa Bloch with Marin Humane says they have had no reports of squirrel attacks since mid-September. If the squirrel crops up again, the nonprofit will coordinate with the state to remove the animal, she said. We've seen this kind of behavior before, she said. It's almost always because someone has been feeding the animal. The good thing is that squirrels are not vectors for rabies. She says people should never feed wildlife."
An aggressive squirrel in Lucas Valley has attacked multiple people, sending at least two to the emergency room and prompting flyers warning residents. One resident, Joan Heblack, said a squirrel leaped out and clawed and bit her leg. Another resident, Isabel Campoy, said a squirrel launched to her face and left her arm bloody. Flyers report more than five people were attacked by the reportedly aggressive animal. Marin Humane reported no new incidents since mid-September and said it will coordinate with state officials to remove the animal if it reappears. Feeding wildlife likely motivates the behavior. Squirrels are not generally vectors for rabies.
