Senators Jeff Merkley and Becca Balint have proposed the No Place for LGBTQ+ Hate Act to counteract Donald Trump's anti-LGBTQ+ executive orders. This new legislation aims to nullify the orders that restrict recognition of gender identity and deny protections for transgender individuals, among other policies. Merkley emphasized the importance of living authentically without discrimination or violence, while Balint reinforced that the administration's actions cannot strip away rights or healthcare. The legislation arrives amidst ongoing challenges to these policies in court and during Pride Month celebrations.
Freedom is the right to safely live as your authentic self without fear of harassment, discrimination, or violence. President Trump and Republicans are attacking our LGBTQ+ neighbors, friends, and family members by rubberstamping discrimination.
Trump cannot take away our rights or our health care just with the stroke of a pen. I'm standing with Senator Merkley and my colleagues to show the Trump administration that their hate and dehumanizing rhetoric targeting queer Americans doesn't intimidate us.
