They drove such good business to the bar that they were able to lose money playing less well-attended shows in Sacramento and other distant points where they weren't as well known."

Funk-jazz saxophonist Karl Denson built a strong Bay Area following in the 1990s with frequent Elbo Room performances that boosted local venues. KDTU remains the primary touring band; Denson also performs as Sexual Chocolate and has played with the Rolling Stones. The band has appeared at Bonnaroo, Jazzfest, and Japan's Fuji Rock Festival.
