"Shapiro was always going to get re-signed. The Blue Jays are on the heels of a World Series appearance, falling just two outs shy of winning it all for the first time since 1993. It was the fourth time in the past six years that the Blue Jays have made the postseason, with one of the missed years coming on the final day."
"Opened in 1989, Rogers Centre was once the pinnacle of baseball stadiums, but had long become a large, outdated, concrete building. Renovations were made ahead of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, turning the stadium into a modern ballpark with plenty to do. On the player development side of things, the Blue Jays opened their Player Development Complex in early 2021."
Shapiro signed a five-year extension that keeps him leading the Blue Jays through the 2030 season; his prior contract was set to end in early 2026. The Blue Jays reached the World Series recently, falling two outs short of a title, and made the postseason four times in six years. The team reached the ALCS twice under Shapiro, including an ALCS appearance in 2016. Shapiro oversaw a rebuilding phase from 2017–2020 and then pursued major free-agent signings, including Hyun Jin Ryu, George Springer, Kevin Gausman, José Berríos, and Dylan Cease. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. received a $500 million extension.
