17 people treated by emergency crews after 'major incident' linked to chemicals at business in Co Down

A significant emergency call prompted the NI Fire & Rescue Service to issue a warning regarding a potential chemical incident at an industrial site near Magheralin, Co Down. Despite 17 individuals being assessed, only five required hospitalization, with their conditions deemed non-life-threatening. Coordination between the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service, Fire and Rescue, and Police Service was effective in managing the situation. Although emergency teams are on scene, authorities assure that there is no ongoing risk to local residents, but have advised avoidance of the area for safety reasons.
NIAS received reports of a potential chemical incident at an industrial site near Magheralin and dispatched a number of emergency ambulances, ambulance officers, a Hazardous Area Response Team and a doctor to the scene with a major incident being declared.
Seventeen potential patients were assessed and five transferred to hospital... though none are thought to be in a life-threatening condition.
NIFRS said there is no risk to the public, however people have been urged to avoid the area.
A further 12 patients were monitored and then discharged from the scene.
