In Traverse City, eleven people were stabbed at a Walmart by a 42-year-old man who used a folding knife. Six victims are in critical condition while five others are serious. The suspect was taken into custody quickly by a sheriff's deputy, and bystanders helped both apprehend him and assist the wounded. Sheriff Michael Shea expressed relief that the situation wasn't worse. The investigation involves authorities looking into the suspect's background. Local hospitals are treating all the victims, and Governor Gretchen Whitmer extended her thoughts to those affected.
"Eleven is 11 too many, but thank God it wasn't more," Sheriff Michael Shea told reporters.
A sheriff's deputy arrived within minutes and took the man into custody, and people in the store also helped apprehend the suspect and treat victims.
