"terrible about all the families that have been hurt and they're under the same crap that I'm going under, that my wife and I are going under. I apologise for that."
"He was in logistics," Thomas Sanford said. "He drove a wrecker and went out and picked up vehicles. One time, he was under fire but most of the time he was fine."
"He was a good man. He was a family man... The only thing I can say is that it was my son that did it. As far as why? Irrelevant. It happened. We're dealing with it. It's been a nightmare."
Sanford rammed his truck into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township on Sunday morning, then fired an assault-style rifle at worshippers, killing four and wounding eight. He set fire to the building as parishioners tried to escape, and was killed by police in a parking lot behind the church. Sanford was a Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq from 2004 to 2008. His father said Sanford worked in logistics, drove a wrecker, and once had been under fire. Family members described Sanford as loving his country and family, and the father apologized to the victims' families.
